Housing Services

May 2, 2006

At the Strategic Planning Sub-group held on 12.4.06 it was agreed that a working group would be set up to look at housing support for service users (and this includes the needs of young people) and how Monmouthshire can meet the National Service Framework target set by the Welsh Assembly Goverment.  Housing and housing support services affect many service users and their carers.   There is a lot to be said and discussed and if you would like to be part of this process please let me know.   There is also a real need to have input from younger people who are likely to have the most recent experiences of the service. Briefly, Standard 3 of the NSF is concerned with the 'Promotion of opportunities for a normal pattern of daily life'.   In Standard 3, Key Action 9 states "Each Local Authority area are to ensure that there is a range of housing options with appropriate level of support available for people with mental health problems by the end of 2009/10. The following Key Action, 9a, states that 'housing options are to range from 24 hour staff support to floating and low level support for individuals in the community with equality of access to mainstream housing opportunities.' If you have experience of housing services, or are likely to, and would like to be involved in the work of the group, please let me know. Tony.

Have you seen a copy of the document 'Developing a Plan for South East Wales'? It is a chance to read what is happening, and send in you own opinion/concerns to the Local Health Board. I am giving out a few copies around the county – if you would like to have one please let me know on 01291-673952. You can also ring the LHB on 01600 710000 and ask for a copy to be sent straight to you.
